Disaster Services:
This course is a pre-requisite to all other disaster training and
can be completed as a self-study.
Participants receive
information about disasters, the community response, and the role of Red
Cross Disaster Services. (Available on-line at
www.redcross.org/disaster.)
Fulfilling Our Mission:
Translating Your Compassion Into Community Action:
(3 hours)
Description: Introduces potential disaster volunteers and members of
other local agencies to the role of the Red Cross in the community’s
actions in preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies
and disasters. Required for all volunteers.

Collaborating to Ensure Effective Service Delivery:
(2 day course)
Description: Prepares participants to establish collaborative
relationships that contribute to coordinated disaster response and help
to ensure effective service delivery. Course also prepares
participants to begin conduction liaison activities in a chapter and
establish a foundation upon which they can build toward a career as a
liaison in the Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) System.

Recommended: Mass Care, Client Casework, Working with Total Diversity

Monthly Meeting Disaster Committee:
The Piedmont Chapter's Disaster Committee meets the second Tuesday of
every month from 5:30-630 pm at the Spartanburg County Office.
Disaster planning and exercises help to prepare the Chapter in the event
of a local disaster. The Disaster Committee needs individuals from
Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union counties who are willing to invest
their time and talents preparing to help those in need.

Disaster Assistance Team (DAT) Member:
(4 hours)
Description: Provides training and
information for participants to become “On-the-scene responders”
to provide relief assistance to individuals and families affected by
a disaster. Train to be a DAT member and take call on a rotating
basis for your local community.

Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance:
(8 hours)
Description: Trains Red Cross workers to conduct effective
client interviews and provide appropriate assistance to help meet a
client’s immediate disaster-caused or disaster-aggravated needs.

Disaster Assessment:
(8 hours)
Description: Introduces the
critical role of disaster assessment, explore related preparedness
tasks, learn how to collect and communicate disaster assessment
information, and become familiar with how disaster assessment
information supports management and service delivery decisions.

Emergency
Operations Center / Incident Command Liaison ARC:
(8 hours)
Description: Prepares Red Cross
volunteers and employees who will be assigned to government and
emergency settings to work collaboratively with Red Cross partners,
helping to ensure a coordinated response that results in effective
service delivery.
