Volunteer Spotlight: Glenda Hammond

Glenda Hammond is our Disaster Services Volunteer of the Year

She became a member of the Piedmont Chapter DSHR system in March 2010.  In the short time she has been a volunteer she has made an impact on our community as part of the Disaster Action Team as well as our national community.  Glenda has been deployed nationally 5 times:

·         Hurricane Earle in 9/10 in Mass Care

·         Eastern North Carolina Floods 10/10 in Disaster Assessment and Client Casework

·         Gaffney Boarding House Fire 3/11 in Client Casework

·         Alabama Tornadoes 5/11 in Client Casework

·         North Dakota Floods 7/11 in Client Casework

·         Hurricane Irene NJ 8/11 in Disaster Assessment

When Glenda is not deployed she volunteers to be the Disaster Action Team Captain and is willing to carry the emergency disaster phone as long as necessary.  We couldn’t begin to count the number of disaster calls Glenda has responded to or the number of clients she has assisted on behalf of the Red Cross.  Glenda is a volunteer who truly understands the mission, and gives support and comfort to all the clients she meets with.  She is known by all as a volunteer with a positive attitude.  Some Disaster Response Supervisory Comments include: “Your positive attitude is refreshing!”  “Glenda follows directions, asking questions when necessary and completes all tasks without complaint.”  “Glenda’s decision making is sound and well reasoned.” “Glenda did her job with empathy, dedication and care with each client.”  “Glenda is an awesome Service Associate in Individual Client Services." Thank you Glenda, for your dedicated support.
